British born James Harries is singer, guitar player and songwriter based in Prague, Czech Republic. On February 24 he released his 10th album Hiraeth on Tranzistor label as CD and download, available also on usual streaming platforms.
Intimate collection of 10 news songs brings his pure musicianship along with his experience of writing music for several Czech movies (a.o. Snowboarďáci, Rafťáci, Lidice, Bobule, Přání Ježíškovi, Blue Shadows).
Oppose to his previous albums, Hiraeth is mainly acoustic recording with occasional help of vocalist Amélie Siba, cello player (and member of Czech Philhamonic) Jan Keller, renowned guitar player Josef Štěpánek and drummer Roman Vícha of prog jazz groups Muff and Martin Brunner Band.
James comments on album title and its content: "Welsh word Hiraeth connects deep desire for home with feeling of nostalgia. It has no exact translation, to me it is like if this home is not real in fact. Those are my feelings about all that Brexit chaos and separation during pandemia. As if I belong to nowhere in the world and the word "home" is only confusing me."
Opening song Diamond Girl goes with the videoclip with popular actress Judit Pecháček, directed by James' fan and musician Petr Lexa. In support of album release, James will play solo and band spring shows in Czech Republic, futher Czech and European dates will follow. Check the Concerts section on his website for actual dates.
