The Cherry Thing rings !

NENEH CHERRY & THE THiNG will play @ Lucerna Music Bar on July 02. The Thing - it is impossible to ignore these 3 Scandinavians - multi-reed player Mats Gustafsson, bassist Ingebrigt Haker Flaten and drummer Paal Nilssen-Love. All world class free improvisers and members of such powerful edge-jazz combos like Atomic, School Days or Scorch Trio. The Thing started in 2ooo as wildly blowing trio, playing mostly tunes by Don Cherry in the beginning. After collaboration with American master saxophonist / trumpetist Joe McPhee they incorporate another freejazz standards into their repertoire and later added crazy versions of various rock hits. Among other collaborators in their huge recorded output are Ken Vandermark, Otomo Yoshihide, Thurston Moore, Jim O'Rourke, Cato Salsa Experience and Barry Guy. Joint project with Swedish singer and trip-hop icon Neneh Cherry started after meeting in London in fall 2o1o and currently culminated in The Cherry Thing album on Smalltown Supersound label.
