Unreleased live recordings of Czech prog and more

Czechoslovak progressive rock group M.Efekt (also known as Blue Effect) captured live in Volyně, South Bohemia, on May 11, 1979. At their prime time, they were really willing to improvise, so tracks vary compared to studio versions.

Blind Badger & Other Jazzy Fables

In this mix I was drawing mostly from recordings of musicians, who I call Brotherhood Family - members of South African Blue Notes and associated British jazzmen. Prominently featured are drummer Louis Moholo and pianist Keith Tippett, and also Elton Dean, Hugh Hopper, Harry Miller, Chris McGregor, Harry Beckett, Evan Parker and others. ERIK TRUFFAZ QUARTET & NYA present BENDING NEW CORNERS

Letos uplynulo 20 let od vydání kultovního a přelomového alba Bending New Corners na značce Blue Note. Nahrávka mísící  be-bop s drum’n’bass a rapem ovlivnila další generace hudebníků. Při příležitosti tohoto výročí odehrají Erik Truffaz Quartet a rapper Nya limitované množství koncertů  Praha bude jednou z jejich zastávek. Kapela tu odehraje hned dva koncerty - první bude 27. září v Paláci Akropolis (v vrámci Respect Festivalu), druhý 28. září v klubu Jazz Dock. Z původní sestavy alba se na pódích vedle trumpetisty Erika Truffaze objeví basista Marc Giuliani a bubeník Marc Erbetta, někdejšího pianistu Patricka Mullera zastoupí současný Truffazův klávesista Benoit Corboz.

Erik Truffaz patří už roky ke špičce evropského jazzu, natočil bezmála 20 alb a prosadil se po celém světě. “Jazz se šťávou i duší, a spoustou otevřeného prostoru,” napsal o něm Rolling Stone. “Inteligentní, nekompromisní hudba současnosti, kterou hrají virtuózní hráči s bohatou fantazií a odvahou,” píše časopis JazzTimes. Ve Švýcarsku narozený a ve Francii žijící trumpetista, přezdívaný Miles Davis acid jazzu se svým kvartetem spojuje jazzové experimenty, drum’n’bass a hip-hop.

Alongside Marcello Giuliani (bass), Marc Erbetta (percussion and drums) and Benoît Corboz (piano and fender rhodes), the French-Swiss trumpeter invites rapper Nya, discovered at the time on «The Dawn» (1998), the first EP of the quartet produced by Blue Note. The general public had then discovered the distinctive sound of Erik Truffaz, an acoustic whole mingling with electronic rhythms, on the tenuous border between jazz and instrumental pop, and had already compared him to Miles Davis. The reunion of these musicians promises to be as intense as it is exciting.
